Representative Darrell Issa (R-California) of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has threatened a contempt of Congress ruling against Holder for failing to turn over the subpoenaed documents about how his department handled congressional inquiries after problems with Operation Fast and Furious came to light.
The lawmaker alleges the Justice Department is engaging in a cover-up. New documents reveal that Holder knew about the operation the day U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed by Mexican drug lords using guns supplied by federal agents. The attorney general assured Congress he knew nothing about the operation until much later.
But Jordan Sekulow, director of international operations with the American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ), says this is typical.
