The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that 19-year-old rapper Lil' Phat, real name Melvin Vernell III, was shot and killed in Atlanta on Thursday (June 7).

The artist, signed to Trill Ent. with labelmates Webbie, Lil Boosie and Lil Trill, was shot at around 6:40 p.m. Thursday in the parking deck of Northside Hospital Women's Center, in the 1001 block of Johnson Ferry Road. Phat was shot multiple times in his car.
Witnesses told police that they saw two black males running away from the scene. Police spokesman Capt. Steve Rose said they were looking for one short man, who was wearing a red t-shirt and another taller man dressed all in black.
Lil' Phat was taken into the hospital after he was pronounced dead at the scene. It is currently unknown whether or not the incident was captured on the hospital's surveillance cameras.
