Dallas defeat’s the San Antonio Spurs a the AAC with 106 to 99 win Cedric Bailey and Kendall Duffie Dallas: The Battle for the Southwest division took place at the American Airlines Center on this past Saturday night. Both teams were coming off some key wins during the week. The Mavericks defeated the Washington Bullets and the Charlotte Bobcats and San Antonio had wins over the Orlando Magic and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Mr. Kendall Duffie, was our guest this week from Nashville, Tenn. Had the opportunity to attend the game with me over the weekend. We had the opportunity to talk with both coaches Rick Carlisle and Gregg Popovich to find out their teams plans on winning the division. Meanwhile San Antonio made the short hop from Oklahoma City on Friday night following one of their best road victories of the season. It was the location of former Spur Stephen Jackson met the team in Dallas after being acquired in a Thursday trade, getting a refresher course on Spurs basketball. The outcome of Jackson’s first game in silver and black since Game 6 of the 2003 Finals was a 106-99 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. It’s the Spurs’ first road loss since Feb. 21, when Portland beat them by 40 the last time they played the second game of a back-to-back. This time, there was no blowout with Spurs starters sitting out to rest overworked bodies. Down as many as 14 in the fourth quarter, the Spurs were within six after a Danny Green 3-pointer with 1:52 left and had a chance to cut it to three 20 seconds later when Manu Ginobili launched a 3-pointer. The San Antonio Spurs showed signs of fatigue from a hard fought battle in Oklahoma City on Friday night where the Spurs edged the Western Conference's number one seed getting big contributions from Parker who poured in 24 points and a season high 19 rebounds from Duncan who also contributed 16 points. The Dallas Mavericks who were off on friday night took full advantage of the weary Spurs with big contributions from Nowitzki who went for 27 and Jason Terry adding 17. The Mavericks jumped out to an early lead and had a big edge in 2nd chance points to hold their conference rivals off and take an impressive home win. This match up could be a preview of the Western Conference Finals...We had the opportunity to speak with Spurs coach Popovich who didn't seem to worried by Saturday’s loss and has his sights on the soon to come post season where the Spurs look to go deep this year with hopes of a 5th and final title for Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs. In closing there were a lot of the good things that happened for the Spurs (29-14) in Oklahoma City went bad against the Mavericks (26-20). Dallas has another tough week with a Monday match up vs. the Denver Nuggets, Wednesday vs. the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio on Friday night in San Antonio. The Spurs are off until Wednesday when they will face the Minnesota Timberwolves. Be sure to check out our podcast with the players at www.baileycedric.podomatic.com or www.lavidanews.com
